The “Present” of Public Education

Teaching in Urban Philadelphia

What Am I All About? September 4, 2007

Miriam @ 8:10 pm

I am an alternatively credentialed teacher.  I am teaching in Philadelphia through a program called “Teach For America.”  They are responsible for much of my training, support, and on going education in my first two years of teaching.

Last year, I taught two different subjects in a middle school in Philadelphia.  This year, I have the privilege of focusing all of my efforts on perfecting my craft in one subject area.

My thoughts are my own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of Teach For America, the School District of Philadelphia, the administration of my school, or the views and perspectives of other teachers or students.  I am attempting to relay my day-to-day experiences and frustrations of educating to close the achievement gap in urban education.
